Victory for A team athletes

The 14 athletes that Mr Main took to the college for their second indoor league fixture on Nov 27th achieved a superb victory with 180 points ahead of Slyne on 169, Westgate on 129 and Greatwood on 121.

Birthday boy Sam Bennett celebrated in style with a fabulous 6.67m in shot put to take overall victory ahead of teammate Ben Belton whose 6.45m gave him second. Sam also did 40 speed bounces to finish second behind teammate Mani Davidson on 41 and managed a third personal best with 1.80m in long jump to be third, with injured captain Harvey Ogley bravely doing this event and managing 1.68m. Luckily Liam Birch was able to step up to do a few of Harvey’s events with his best being a well judged 57.11 in 4 lap where he finished fourth behind Mani who was third overall with 56.83. Young Joshua Pughsley stepped up from the B team and can be proud of his leap of 4.98m, the best jump by a Lancaster Rd boy this season and a big PB to finish third. He also showed his potential in the 2 lap sprint where 26.08 gave him fourth overall.

A squad of 8 girls all contributed great performances. There were impressive victories from Isabella Stretch, whose 41 speed bounces places her second equal in our all time list, and from Chelsea Doherty who took 1.22secs off her PB to record a fabulous 29.19 secs in winning the hurdles event. There was another PB from Aleisha Woods with 5.48m to be second in shot put, and an amazing leap of 5.02m in triple jump from Charlie Pearcy who also finished second. Emily Sim finished second in her best event the javelin and there was another good second place finish from Aimee Quill in speed bounce with 37 behind the dominant Isabella. Ellie Clarke did well in both her jumping events and there was a promising debut in javelin from Amy Ward. Altogether the girls (90pts)out scored the lads (84) with some consistently high finishes…a feat that hasn’t been achieved before!

A determined Harvey joined Liam, Chelsea and Emily for the relay race at the end and good changes enabled us to finish a strong second behind Slyne. The overall victory by 11pts was celebrated by birthday boy Sam giving each team member a pack of Haribos from his birthday treat box…a kind gesture that shows the tremendous team spirit shown by all the children and their parents.

B Team Athletes finish second as season starts

Our young B team finished an excellent second at Lancaster and Morecambe College in fixture one of their league campaign with a score of 166pts ahead of Moorside on 128 and Ryelands on 106 but behind St Peters’ on 199.

There were 6 wins in total by individuals with Ellie Clarke showing her tremendous potential with victory in triple jump with a splendid personal best of 4.80m and another win in long jump with a leap of 1.64m.Serena Mount did well to finish third in shot put with a PB of 4.60m, and there were promising performances from Tia Kinrade (who can be pleased with her 37 speed bounces to be 4th) and captain Amy Tyson who managed 4.26m in triple jump and 4.12m in shot put. Young Chelsea Doherty was unlucky to be denied overall victory in hurdles after clipping the last barrier, but her time of 30.41 was still fast enough to break into the top ten all time rankings for our school. She showed her consistency across the board with 3rd in javelin and also long jump and ran a splendid sprint race in a time of 27.68 which placed her fourth.

For the boys, Martin Blacow had a fantastic first ever appearance, by winning speed bounce with a score of 39 and then running a brave 4 lap race where he finished 4th with 59.08secs. Captain Connor Roach did well to leap 4.18m in triple jump to give him 5th, while classmate Sam Bennett showed strength and technique to win shot put with 6.06m. He also ran well in hurdles but was penalised by a second for dubious hurdling technique. Despite crossing the line first in his race, Sam’s penalty second placed him 4th. Young Harry Martin can be pleased with his 37 speed bounces which placed him third and a fabulous sprint time of 26.67 secs in winning race two. He was only pipped for overall victory by team mate Joshua Pughsley who won race 1 in a time of 25.77, to add to his epic hurdles win with a splendid time of 28.86.

Four of the y5s (Tia, Chelsea, Harry and Joshua) combined in the relay squad, where some lovely changeovers and turns added to rapid running gave us a close second behind deserved winners St Peter’s.

The next fixture for the B team is in early January but a few of this squad have done enough to perhaps represent the A team before Christmas.

Super Start for Football Team

The A team began their league campaign with three slick victories at Morecambe High on Oct 15th.

Wins of 5-0, 11-0 and 8-0 were recorded against Greatwood, West End and Sandylands to show the rest of the teams in the 13 team league that we mean business again this season.

Harvey Ogley, Martin Blacow, Connor Roach, Mani Davidson, Sam Bennett and Liam Birch from y6 were joined by Chelsea Doherty, Harry Martin, George Stokes and Nathan Mooney from y5 in a strong squad of 10.

Well done lads (and lass) on an impressive start to the season. Next fixtures for us likely to be on Nov 5th. Check out MCHS Sport on Twitter for the latest news.
