Solid start to season 2015/16 for indoor athletics squad

Friday 2nd October saw the A team of Indoor Athletes start their campaign with a tough fixture against three other schools. They battled well to score 149pts and finish in second on the night just ahead of Moorside on 147 and Westgate on 102, but behind St Peter’s on 201pts.

There were two fantastic javelin victories by Emily Sim and debutant Ben Belton from 5M.Both held their nerve in tight competitions. Ben won with his first throw, while Emily showed determination to overhaul her rival from St Peter’s. Ben also managed an impressive second place in shot put with three throws over 6.70m, his best being 6.76m.

A determined Harvey Ogley managed personal bests in each of his four events. A gutsy 2nd overall in hurdles with a PB time of 27.43 was followed by an even more impressive new PB of 53.23secs in 4 lap (also good enough for 2nd overall) consolidating his position of 5th in our school all time rankings. Young Charlie Pearcy from 5M also managed three personal bests and can be proud of leaps of 4.88m in triple jump and 1.64m in long jump which followed a fabulous hurdles run of 30.02secs which gave her 2nd overall.

Elsewhere Isabella Stretch managed a new PB of 38 speed bounces which placed her 2nd overall and then threw well in javelin to finish 4th. Aimee Quill ran a PB of 31.45 in hurdles and was only 2cm short of her long jump PB with 1.60m. An impressive 41 speed bounces by Mani Davidson gave him second overall, and Sam Bennett also performed well in long jump where he managed an excellent PB of 1.72m. Liam Birch scored 38 in speed bounce to be 5th and Laura Cowell did well with 4.28m in triple jump before combining well with Harvey, Emily and Liam in the relay where some excellent changeovers allowed them to pip Moorside on the line to take 2nd place.

The A team return for their second fixture on November 27th.
