Tower Wood 2017

Today 48 intrepid adventurers set off from Lancaster Road to spend 3 adventure packed days away at Tower Wood.  The weather has been very kind so far and the children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in orienteering, tree climbing, sky pole, adventure course, canoeing and night walk (we saw Venus and Mars) – and that is just Day 1!

Day 2

Today Mrs Farish came to visit and help out.  The day started at 7am with a wake up call.  The children quickly got ready and came and made their own packed lunch – it made interesting viewing!  Breakfast at 8am was a noisy affair.  The groups then split up and today they took part in bush craft (making shelters, lighting fires, etc.), canoeing and sky tower.  All groups visited Cathedral Quarry and experienced what it is like underground with and without lights.  Cathedral quarry has been used as a setting in Game of Thrones.

Back at the centre we all had tea at around 5.45pm.  Mrs Farish said her goodbyes and Miss Liver came to join us overnight and for tomorrow’s activities.  Then room inspections and a night activity called Headhunters – torches at the ready!

Day 3

Another early start with the added task of stripping the beds and packing.  Lunches still had to be made and breakfast was at 8am.  A morning of activities; each group catching up on what they missed on the previous days was followed by lunch in the boathouse overlooking the lake.

In the afternoon the children took part in team problem solving activities and then they made a rocket from a plastic bottle and other materials.  The rocket had to carry an ‘eggstranaut’ and the aim was for the egg to survive the journey and to travel the farthest distance.  Well done to Team B who were successful on both counts.

The coach arrived at 4.30pm and some very tired children were returned to parents.

The children have all had a go at all the activities, they have cooperated well and were a credit to their families and teh school with their politeness and behaviour.  It has been a pleasure.

My thanks to all the Tower Wood and Lancaster Road staff for putting in their time and effort.
